It Kills – Sailors
You have to crumble to rise up against all odds. Success has to be balanced by shortcomings. You need to have fucked things up to relish the fresh start. You can’t spread your wings if you haven’t been uprooted.
Sailor feels perfectly balanced, slightly metronomic. Nothing steps in too boldly but everything stands memorably. The delicate instrumentation and arrangements can get dramatic but remain slightly distant. The song doesn’t directly address you but more encourages you to address yourself and do a bit of mind strolling, which is a good thing when song lyrics feel inconsequential and trivial.
Balances are best when they are between 2 extremes, knowing that you are in the stagnant calm before the ripping storm, things are picking up and this is just the inevitable lull in proceedings. It Kills reminds me that things are about to kick off, it’s like being shoulder deep in water and feeling a god-damned huge wave dragging you outwards and into it’s clutches before all hell breaks loose.
