Steve Mason you say? not so sure about him? lets do this.

Steve Mason – The Letter

Track 3 from the new album called Boys Outside which I bought today (as well as a wildly mispriced book/CD collection about The Band). The album is excellent, genuinely complex and utterly inaccessible for the first few spins, like drinking gin and champagne. The Letter has had the most plays for me today probably because of the quality intro and the soul strumming momentum that gets poured everywhere. Reminiscent of Rush Of Blood… Coldplay but with Mason’s awesome unique vocals. Lyrics are a bit shit.

King Biscut Time/Jazzy Grooves-I Walk The Earth/Ooh Lawd

Mason put some stuff out under the name King Biscuit Time between The Beta Band and his current solo shenanigans. This track (which blends into some epic Jazzy Grooves) came to me via Stars On 33 which is the greatest record I have ever bought, literally top 5 of all time. I hate writing about it because the music is infinitely better than any writing could be, but it is very good and Jazzy Grooves is hilarious. This is the track as mixed by Aim and has some cool stuff going down with it. Better lyrics.

The Beta Band – Dry the Rain (live at Shepherd’s Bush)

Possibly the greatest live track I have at my disposal. The Beta Band are Mason’s most successful and fantastic project.  Sometimes Kraftwerk, sometimes Slow Club, sometimes The Beatles, sometimes Morcheeba; people drop out of the band because of LSD, and the music is outrageous. Dry The Rain is goose bump triggering and Summerishly beautiful. The crowd are just complete champions in this song, literally the most awesome outro since time began. Watch it HD on Youtube, go ballistic, at about 2 and a half minutes I am beyond speech. Lyrical nirvana.

Thats some tasty music Steve, nom nom nom.
